Construction Foreman - Athletic Fields

Department: Field Construction
Location: Des Moines, IA

This position will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing athletic field construction and renovation projects from start to finish and reporting to the Project Manager. The Construction Foreman at Iowa Sports Turf, a division of Musco Sports Lighting, is expected to be hands-on, working closely with and operating equipment alongside the crew to complete projects successfully. He or She will lead by example, demonstrating strong technical skills including operating and maintaining equipment, and utilizing Leica Robotic Total Station to establish layouts and elevations. The foreman must have strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage the crew, as well as the ability to collaborate and coordinate with engineers, architects, general/sub contractors, construction managers and other stakeholders. In addition to managing the day-to-day operations of the construction site, the foreman will be responsible for ensuring that all work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.

This role requires a high level of flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment where travel, long hours, and weekends may be necessary. The ideal candidate for this role will have a degree and experience in construction management, turfgrass management, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support, leadership, and training to team members
  • Work alongside and supervise Team Members to complete tasks as directed by the Project Manager
  • Determine and coordinate necessary equipment and supplies to complete tasks
  • Schedule objectives and deliverables
  • Maintain and skillfully operate equipment including tractors, skid loaders, excavators, etc.
  • Complete project layout and grading using robotic total station
  • Complete daily progress reports and communicate status to Project Manager
  • Follow safety guidelines and regulations, including maintaining a clean work environment
  • Interpret construction documents and maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to plans and specifications
  • Complete physical labor activities including regularly lifting 50+ lbs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Athletic Field construction experience preferred (relevant education may count as experience)
  • Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM) or Certified FieldBuilder (CFB) certification preferred
  • Degree in Construction Management, Turfgrass Management or related preferred
  • CDL training required after employment
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
